Eduardo Sacheri was born in Buenos Aires in 1967. A History graduate, Sacheri professor, teaches high school and university students. He started writing in the mid-90s. His first collection of short stories, Esperándolo a Tito y otros cuentos de fútbol (“Waiting for Tito and other Football Stories”) was published in Spain in 2000 under the title Traidores y otros cuentos (“Traitors and other stories”). Three other collections where published between 2001 and 2007, all of which have been incredible long-sellers in Argentina and are being constantly reprinted. Some of his short stories have appeared in magazines in Spain and in Colombia.

But El Mono didn’t have any money – he invested every penny he owned on a young and promising football player who turned out to be a failure. Sacheri’s latest novel is an ode to love, friendship and humor. It shows once again how remarkable a storyteller the author’s, full of tenderness and compassion for his characters. Like The Question in their eyes, it would make a wonderful movie.

La pregunta de sus ojos (The Question in her Eyes)

To keep himself busy, Chaparro, a retired court clerk, sets out to write a novel about a case he worked on in the 60s and 70s and that has haunted him ever since.
A newly married young woman was raped and strangled in her home. The investigation was dropped after a few months, as often happened in the turmoil Argentina was going through at
the time. But over the years new developments lead Chaparro to keep in touch with the widower, a very meticulous bank employee who never managed get over the death of the wife and whose only purpose in life is to see the murderer convicted. The intensity of that man’s love impresses Chaparro, who, after two divorces, is only beginning to experience something similar in his old age. Crime, justice, politics and revenge mingle in the lives of the characters and climax in the most unexpected ending.

Adapted by the author and director Juan José Campanella as The Secret in their Eyes, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2010

Aráoz y la verdad (Aráoz and the Truth)

The truth is what Aráoz needs to find out. The truth about Perlassi, his childhood hero. Five days, brooding over his past and trying to pry information out of old Lépori, Perlassi’s employee, who knows far more than he pretends to. This is not a book about football, but about failure and redemption.
