Project Description

Alicia Steimberg

Alicia Steimberg (Buenos Aires, 1933-2012) has received numerous literary awards throughout her career. In 1992 she was awarded the prestigious Premio Planeta Biblioteca del Sur for her novel Cuando digo Magdalena (Call me Magdalena). Three of her books were translated into English: Músicos y relojeros (Musicians and Watchmakers), Cuando digo Magdalena (Call me Magdalena) — which the Kirkus Reviews praised mentioned as being “…intricate, sensuous and frequently hilarious, very much like a really good Luis Buñuel film”, rating Steimberg as “one of Latin America’s best writers”—, and La Selva (The Rainforest), all three published by University of Nebraska Press. Alicia continues to write novels — her latest one being La música de Julia (Julia’s Music) —, and to conduct frequent lectures and workshops in the United States and Latin America.
